Why this behaviour chart works

Little kids can’t hold an abstract goal like ‘be kinder’ — but they can absolutely see a row of stars growing. A behaviour chart makes the effort visible, gives daily moments to praise, and replaces a lot of repeated nagging with a quiet, motivating record of how the week is going.

How to use it

  1. Print the PDF (US Letter or A4) and agree the goal behaviour together.
  2. Add a sticker or star for each day (or part-day) it goes well.
  3. Celebrate progress out loud, and ease off the chart once the habit is established.

Pairs well with: Kids Chore Chart · Reward Chart · Kids Routine Chart

Questions

How is a behaviour chart different from a chore chart?+

A chore chart tracks jobs done; a behaviour chart tracks how things are going — kind words, listening, staying calm — so it's about encouraging habits, not ticking off tasks.

Won't it feel like bribery?+

Used gently, it's encouragement, not bribery — you're making good effort visible and worth celebrating. Praise the progress on the chart, and fade it out once the habit sticks.
